Lionel Barrymore was an Academy Award-winning American actor of stage, screen, and radio. Well known for iconic performances in films such as It's a Wonderful Life, Key Largo, The Little Colonel, and Captains Courageous—to name but a very few—he was one of the most versatile and talented character actors of Hollywood's golden age. A member of the prominent Barrymore-Drew acting clan, he was initially reluctant to go into show business, but eventually fell in love with the craft and was soon a Broadway star, alongside his equally famous siblings Ethel and John. Venturing into film in its early years, he took the industry by storm and never looked back. He enjoyed an enormously successful career that spanned six decades.
