Crimen; Textos 1934-1936
Crimen (1934) is, probably-despite the fact that its structure fiercely rejects any classification-the first surrealist novel published in Spain. A beautiful and disturbing text, embedded in the avant-garde aesthetics of the Europe of the moment, which rejects all to taboos to explore the darkest drives of the human being. Thus, the memory of a master crime will serve the hallucinated narrator to assemble a delirious catalogue of illustrious murderers: jasmines that poison sleeping maidens, men crucified on the balcony of their bridal chamber, statues that use their breasts as a weapon in a double infanticide. ..
Praised by Azorín and Gómez de la Serna, Espinosa's work was silenced for political reasons and the few available copies were hidden or destroyed. After its rescue in 1974, its value has quietly increased until it became a secret classic of 20th century Spanish literature in its own right.
This edition includes extensive other writings from Espinosa dated 1934-1936.
